The Besakih route is the most popular and most challenging path to reach the true summit of Mount Agung — the highest point in Bali at 3,032 meters above sea level. This route begins near the island’s most sacred temple, Besakih (Mother Temple of Bali), and is designed for those who seek a true adventure and a deep sense of achievement.
The trek starts late at night and takes you through dense tropical forest, steep volcanic terrain, black sand, and rocky paths that will test both your stamina and determination. The ascent takes approximately 5.5 to 6.5 hours, leading you to the summit just in time for a spectacular sunrise.
As the sun rises, the sky transforms into shades of red, orange, and gold. From the very top of Mount Agung, you’ll witness one of the most stunning panoramas in Indonesia — overlooking Denpasar, Ubud, Lovina, Amed, and on clear days, even Lombok and Java. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime view that stays with you forever.
This route is significantly more demanding than Mount Batur and is recommended only for those who are physically fit and ready for a serious challenge. Proper preparation and fitness are essential before joining this trek.

Itinerary – Mount Agung via Besakih
- 22.00 pm – 23.00 pm : We will pick up depending on your accommodation all around Bali then direct to Besakih Temple.
- 00.00 am : Arrived at starting point, then introduction and safety briefing by our experience local hiking guide.
- 00.30 am : Our experience local hiking guide will take you on 6 hours trek to reach the top or summit point.
- 06.00 am : Our guide will serve coffee or tea and Ala Agung volcano breakfast and see spectacular sunrise.
- 07.00 am : After sunrise, continues the trip go down to the car park
- 09.00 am : Half way to the car park, cross little jungle for 1 hour
- 11.00 am : Will arrive at the bottom by 10.45 am to 11.00 am
- 12.30 pm – 13.30 pm : Estimated Return to your hotel
